National Poetry Day Challenge-Day 4

April is National Poetry Day! I’m challenging myself to write and share one poem each day. Follow my blog to see all entries! ) This is a bilingual poem, scroll down for English version.

SOLDADO- SOLDIER by Mariana Llanos

“Me voy,” dijo él.
Y por un momento
Nos ahogamos los dos
En un abrazo.
No tuvimos forma
De saber,
Que ese abrazo
Sería eterno.

¿Porqué será que la guerra
Se alimenta de llanto?

“I’m going,” he said.
And for an instant
We drowned
In a hug.
We had no way
Of knowing
That it would be
An eternal embrace.

Why is it that war
feeds on crying?
